Shapes that can be made by vacuum forming include 3D shapes where the sides are sloped (like a plastic drinking cup) so that the formed part can be removed from the mold. In vacuum forming, features on the side of the shape are very limited as they can prevent release from the mold. Examples of parts made by vacuum forming include trays, enclosures, cups, cup lids, packaging clamshells, auto interior panels, utensil trays, etc. Die-Casting Pressure die casting is a process where metal is melted and forced into steel dies. The metal hardens into the desired shape. Molten metal is injected into a die cavity through a channel by movement of a plunger. After a preset solidification time, the plunger reverses direction and the part is ejected. Some examples of use of die casting include engine blocks, toy components, bushings, levers, gears, and assorted parts used in the automotive, aerospace and medical industries, etc.
