A B & F Sheet Metal Products
AB&F Sheet Metal started in August of 1969. One of our founders, Milford Armstrong (the “A” in AB&F), is still very much involved with the company’s day-to-day operations. A lot has happened in our 46 years, and “Mel” has a story for each. There is no doubt about the authenticity of these stories. We were involved in aerospace since the beginning – Mel had a strong foundation, having gone through Pratt & Whitney’s Sheet Metal School in 1956. We have always been innovators and problem solvers – many of our processes were developed for experimentals and prototypes, and, in August of 1992 after hurricane Andrew hit Florida, we worked directly with an Air Force general on F-16’s after they were damaged in the 175-m.p.h. winds.
We incorporated in September of 1998 as AB&F Sheet Metal Products, Inc., our current incarnation. There were some lean years – the aerospace industry was not always as strong as it is now. But we kept afloat, at different times producing greenhouse carts, scaffolding, manhole service hoists, eyeglass frames, and transfer bins for unloading railroad hopper cars. Always the innovators, we developed the bending processes for the first snowmobile windshields made from Polycarbonates.
With our decision early in 2015 to pursue AS9100 certification, we have abandoned all other work and committed entirely to the aerospace industry. Our current staff has a combined 178 years in aerospace, sheet metal, engineering, and computers. We bring a strong presence to the industry, mostly building components for tubing assemblies: ID Bands, sleeve halves, plates, flanges, brackets, tube segments, and shields, all from aerospace materials, and all to rigorous aerospace standards with required paper trail and certifications.
