CNC machinists fabricate plastic and metal parts using computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Attention to detail is extremely important when assembling products being used by any of our highly valued customers serviced by Ind Mfg. CNC Machinists monitor computers and machines to maintain top-notch quality and precision for customers in a variety of industries ranging from firearms to medical and wood pulp & paper to food processing equipment. This position requires Full-Time 40+ hours weekly. Overtime is mandatory on an as needed basis as well as afterhours 24 hour emergency assistance in which the employee would be paid two and a half times their normal hourly rate when asked to respond to an emergency call from a customer.

Physical Requirements:

The physical requirements for this position require continuous standing and intermittent walking, bending, sitting, and lifting of parts up to 50 pounds. The CNC Set-Up Technician should have the physical and mental ability to perform the above necessary job functions while maintaining an exemplary safety record and POSITIVE attitude.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Includes, but may not be limited to the following:

  • CNC machinist programmers set- up and operates conventional, special-purpose, and computerized numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts Programs CNC machines with instructions, offsets, reference points, and other calculations to create parts needed in manufacturing.
  • CNC machinist programmer fit and assemble machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques.
  • CNC machinist programmers study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • CNC machinist measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece’s as guides for subsequent machining.
  • CNC machinist programmer select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • CNC machinist programmer calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • CNC machinist programmers start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • CNC machinist programmer verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • CNC machinist programmer set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data before running a live program.
  • CNC machinist programmer fit and assemble parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools.
  • CNC machinist programmers verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • CNC machinist programmers may install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • CNC machinist programmers may operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
  • CNC machinist programmers may develop specifications from blue prints, general description and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
  • CNC machinist programmers may confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • CNC machinist programmers may specialize in setting up and operating computerized numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers.
  • CNC machinist programmers interpret overall engineering plans, surface locations and machining parameters in order to correctly program machines.
  • CNC machinist programmers inspect finished parts for quality and blueprint accuracy.
  • CNC machinist programmers track and maintain the stock of raw materials used to fabricate ordered parts.
  • CNC machinist programmers work with inventory managers to place orders and reports low stock levels.
  • CNC machinist programmers manage inventory and orders in the most efficient and cost-effective ways.
  • CNC machinist programmers complete regular maintenance on CNC lathe’s & milling machines.
  • CNC machinist programmers schedules maintenance to resolve problems with the CNC lathe & milling machines.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution (preferred).
  • 3-5 years of machining experience (necessity).
  • 1-5 years of experience with CNC, measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height and depth gauges) (necessity).
  • 1-5 years of experience with shop floor control software (IQMS MES, TrakSYS, E2 Shop System, ESPRIT and other programming controls) (preferred).
  • 1-5 years of experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, SolidWorks (preferred), Mastercam) (preferred).
  • Technically competent operating on CNC machines of all kinds in an industrial PRODUCTION based setting where time spent on jobs is of upmost importance!
  • Hand and eye coordination and attention to detail as well as the ability to listen and take note to direction given from management is imperative.


Weekly Pay

Ranging from 18-28 dollars an hour based on experience and ability.

Vacation is negotiated at time of hire based on experience and ability.

Relocation assistance is agreed upon at time of hire based upon experience and ability as well as attitude.

Residency in Albany Ga or surrounding bordering counties is mandatory for employment at Ind Mfg.
