We are currently hiring a Machine Operator, Entry Level, for a unique opportunity on our manufacturing team in Appleton, Wisconsin. Our shop is not your typical machine shop. As a Machine Operator, you are an integral part of a successful team and are responsible for operating the vertical turning centers that produce specialized products and components for the aerospace industry.We will train mechanically inclined individuals who want to learn and grow in a rewarding CNC machining environment.

In this role, you will be able to work with new state-of-the-art equipment in a safe, clean air and climate-controlled environment. This is a second shift role 3pm-11:30pm Monday through Friday.

A successful Machine Operator is a problem-solver, safety focused, and understands the importance of precision and quality. In order to become successful, you’ll have to learn ATI, our products, customers, and procedures; and work collaboratively with other Machine Operators and cross-functional teams to ensure product is manufactured to quality and customer specifications.

Essential Functions:

  • Receives work instructions, operation sheets, setup sheets, and 1st piece and in-process check sheets from department supervision indicating the operations to be performed
  • Reads and interprets dimensions drawings, sketches, tool setup sheets and manufacturing instructions in performing required machining operation and setups
  • Uses operational drawings to determine required dimensions, travels, and tolerance to be maintained
  • Oversees and controls the operation of machining centers in the machining of forgings made from various types of super alloys with full support of the engineering and programming departments.
  • Uses precision or standard measuring devices that are completely furnished by the company, such as scales inside and outside micrometers, dial indicators, Vernier scales, fixed frame gauges or special gauges, and profilometers to check machined dimensions and surface finishes conforming to customer prints and/or specifications
  • Loads and unloads pieces using an overhead hoist.
  • Exercises care in handling of material before and after the machining operation


  • Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Manufacturing experience preferred, but we will train a motivated, mechanically inclined individual


  • Excellent oral and written communication with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a high performing team
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze and resolve difficult problems effectively and implement long-term solutions
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
