This position requires a valid Class (E) driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Drivers Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:
- three (3) or more moving violations in the past 3 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation;
- any 2 convictions of reckless driving in the past 3 years;
- a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past 3 years; and
- a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past 4 years

In order to be eligible for hire into a position requiring a CDL, applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse, as required, for the Department to conduct a pre-employment query. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs skilled bench work operating radial arm saws, power table sander, band saw, drill press, and various small electric hand tools. Performs general and major carpentry work in the alterations or remodeling of roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, etc. Performs masonry, sheet metal, and steel frame building assembly and maintenance. Required to drive to field locations to perform work.
Performs general carpentry work, finished and rough, related to the remodeling, repair, and structural maintenance of buildings. Builds concrete forms, scaffolds, office furniture, construction, and alteration of custom cabinets to specification and wood deck on equipment hauling trailers. Required to drive to field locations to perform work.
Installs new furniture and appliances, and maintain and repair all existing furniture and appliances. Performs floor and ceiling repairs, sheetrock repair, painting, staining of woodwork, and wallpaper installation and repair. Required to drive to field locations to perform work.
Selects materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for required work and prepares requisitions and price quotes for purchases according to purchasing guidelines. Purchases parts and supplies as a purchasing card holder and is accountable for proper processing of invoices and completion of required paperwork and work orders.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of basic carpentry skills and the proper and safe use of both power and hand tools. Ability to read and understand plans. Knowledge of safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work. Skilled in carpentry, masonry, remodeling and repair. Skilled in preventative maintenance. Ability to work in dusty, muddy and greasy locations. Ability to take accurate measurements. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb, squat, stoop, push, pull, crawl and bend. Ability to use appropriate safety equipment. Ability to work independently. Skilled in documenting work performed and materials used on work orders. Skilled in the use of basic math. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies. While on duty status, the incumbent of this position may be required to drive a state owned or leased vehicle to perform the duties of the position. A valid Class “E” driver’s license is required. The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency. Requires one-year experience as a carpenter or graduate from an accredited program. An additional year of experience, in carpentry is a substitute for a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency. Possess a valid Class “E” driver license.

A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976.00 will be added to the annual salary.
