Sand Casting - Panel

This RFQ was sourced on in USA for Sand Mold Casting

Production of a Sand Casting - Panel. Approximately 19.0inch x 5.22inch x 1.0inch. Material should be Aluminum Alloy- SR319, self-aging.

Buyer is looking for sand cast blanks, which will get secondary and final machining to dimension.

Therefore, Buyer is looking for raw cast parts, which will be machined to final dimensions. Casting must be close to the high side of the final tolerance dimensions as possible (to minimize final machining time).

Attached drawing was originally for a part which was to be made from a billet.

Please quote in two ways:

1. Quote this with making the casting only! Final machining will be done by Buyer, to get secondary and final machining to dimension.

2. Quote the casting for this part along with machining to final dimensions. This is only if Supplier has CNC machining capabilities.

If Supplier can do the casting and the final machining, please quote the part both ways.

If Supplier can only provide the casting, then quote only the casting.

In either case, list which option is being quoted.

Also, list in the quotation how much over the high side of the dimensional tolerance the casting will be made. This is so Buyer can determine how much machining time will be necessary, to machine the casting to its final dimension.

When quoting the casting tool, be certain that it is of the quality to make 500 casting per year, for a 3 to 5 year period, without additional cost for tooling maintenance.

Sand Mold Casting: Sand mold casting is a widely used form of casting. As the name implies, sand is used to create the casting mold. In sand casting, a pattern of the finished part is placed in sand. The sand is then packed around the pattern to form the mold. If the pattern must be removed before pouring the metal, the mold will be made in two or more pieces. The mold must be modified to include a hole through which the metal will be poured. The mold remains in tact until the metal has solidified. The mold is destroyed when the part is removed, so a new mold has to be made for each casting. Sand casting service companies can cast large parts. Sand molds can be used in iron casting, bronze casting, brass casting, and aluminum casting. Another type of sand casting, green sand casting, is inexpensive and can produce parts in a wide range of sizes, however the surface finish is generally not smooth and the dimensions cannot be controlled to a small tolerance. Additional machining of the casting may be required. Green sand molds are use in the production of iron casting, steel casting, and stainless steel casting, and casting alloys of copper, magnesium, and nickel.
