Bending: Bending is a flexible process that allows many different shapes to be produced. Standard die sets are used to produce a wide variety of shapes. The material is placed on the die, and positioned in place with stops and/or gages. It is held in place with hold-downs. The upper part of the press, the ram with the appropriately shaped punch descends and forms the v-shaped bend. Forming is similar to bending. Complex parts such as U-sections, channel sections of different profiles can be produced by doing multiple bends. Roll forming is a continuous metal forming process that takes sheet, strip, or coiled stock and bends or forms it into shapes of essentially identical cross section by feeding the metal between successive pairs of rolls that increasingly shape it until the desired cross section is completed adding both strength and rigidity to lightweight materials.
