Custom Socket This RFQ was sourced on www.MFG.com in CANADA for Near-Net-Shape Forging The part is a custom socket (similar to regular wrench sockets but larger and with a custom opening at the bottom rather than a regular hex opening). The top portion that looks like a regular socket can be made using the same process for making common regular sockets. It would fit a 3/8" ratchet wrench. It would need some final machining (which we’ll do) so no finishing is necessary. It will eventually be chrome plated (much like regular sockets). Material is also that of regular sockets, chromium- vanadium steel. Please note that dimensions are for the finished part (after plating). Near-Net-Shape Forging: Near-net shape forging requires precision tooling which results in very little waste or flash, thus minimizing the amount of machining required. Net shape or near-net shape forging is generally done to produce parts that, if forged by other means, would require a large percentage of the part to be machined away.
