Annealing: Annealing is a heat treating process used to soften metal. Softening metal changes its crystalline structure and improves metal's performance characteristics, such as ductility and finish. The annealing process requires that metal be heated to very high temperatures for a period of time. The temperature and time required depends on the carbon content of the metal.
