Modified ’S’ Harness Support
Production of a harness support. This project calls for a
structure that will stand over a treadmill to support a
harness that will catch the person on the treadmill should
they fall. The body harness will be connected to the
structure by a couple of lanyards dropping down and
connecting at the shoulders.
The final design for this structure requires a compound
metal tube bend (bending and rolling). Enclosed are some
engineering drawings of the design. An estimate of cost
for manufacturing, materials, and shipping of the bent
tubing would be very much
appreciated.
Buyer would like to use 6061 Aluminum at a dimension of
2.5" OD x 0.25" WT. The design that buyer submitted calls
for 3 pieces of Aluminum tubing, two 5 ft pieces and one
12 ft piece. Buyer plans on connecting the tubes by
inserting an 8 inch or so solid aluminum rod (2" OD)
inside the tubes and bolting one half of the solid rod
inside the bottom L shaped piece and one half inside the
curved piece to securely hold the two together. However,
buyer is very open to suggestions or recommendations
for this attachment.
The structure should be sturdy enough to hold the force
generated by a falling person. The analysis by the CAD
program with which created the design says that it should
be ok up to a 700lb downward force, but if you know from
experience that buyer should maybe use either a different
wall thickness tubing or if stronger metal like steel
could be bent in the same shape to make a stronger
structure, etc. please let buyer know.
