With a very low coefficient of friction, the UHMW-Polyethylene polymer is much more efficient that steel in mating surface sliding applications. The polymer's inherent lubrication significantly reduces friction and the associated heat that causes steel parts to deteriorate.
Parts that are compression molded from UHMW-Polyethylene are tough, efficient, noiseless and can be molded with high presicion.
Parts that have been traditionally machined are excellent candidates for compression molding from UHMW-Polyethylene. Examples of good candidate parts are sprockets, wheels, bearings and many other component parts for applications as diverse as rail cars, aerospace , food packaging and automotive parts.
