The Annualized Value Is Conservatively Calculated

Here's how we do it:

  • First, we average the quotes submitted to a particular RFQ. Then we multiply that average by the estimated annual usage specified by the buyer.

     

  • If no quotes have been received for a particular RFQ, but the buyer specified a baseline price, we use that number times the estimated annual usage. Once quotes have been received, we begin using the average quote method specified above.

     

  • If no quotes have been received and the buyer did not specify a baseline price, we use zero for the value until a quote has been received.

The data we present is understated for the following reasons:

  • We only count RFQs that have received quotes or have a baseline price specified by the buyer. This fact alone could cause the total RFQ opportunity index to be understated by as much as 30%.

  • We only calculate the value of the first year's annual usage, when in fact a significant number of RFQs result in recurring orders spanning multi-year relationships. The value of these relationships is incalculable.
