In addition to your quote, please include your draft of the
heat treat control process specification that will follow
AMS 2759/1
Please note the following considerations:
Note: Two SCT coupons (supplied with the part) shall be
processed with the part. After normalizing, one coupon shall
be coated with a stop-off compound (to prevent any further
surface contamination during hardening) and the other shall
be left bare. Both coupons shall be processed through the
hardening and tempering cycle with the part. The coupons
shall be tested to determine conformance with the
requirements of AMS 2759/1. If the bare coupon meets the
specification, the coated coupon need not be tested.
1.clean part as necessary
2.part must be heat treated in the vertical position
3.preheat, normalize, followed by circulating air cool in
accordance with AMS 2759/1.
4.the heat treat (due to normalizing) scale shall be removed
by pickling.
5.preheat, harden, fast oil (Park AAA or equivalent) quench,
temper to achieve 180-200 ksi tensil strength per AMS 2759/1
(40-43 HRC)
6.hardness test (see drawing for location)
7.certification of heat treat required
8.operators will supply all charts, stamped and dated, with
all required information.
